Marijuana Legal in Colorado

Ok so I'm currently living in Colorado...land of mountains, hiking, biking and...marijuana. Sigh. Now I'm not opposed to people smoking- you can do what you want and I won't judge. However, I have no desire to smell this stuff everywhere I go. It reeks. And I'm still not convinced it's not 'bad for you.'  Since it became 'legal' today, people are lining up all over the state to purchase their ounce (or if you're an out-of-stater, an eighth of an ounce). Right now the going rate for an eighth is $25-45. Wow. I guess my question is, why would anyone want to waste their money on this? Go out for a nice dinner. Have a steak and a big 'ol glass of wine. Hell, you could even fill up your tank of gas while you're at it. I guess if it's a one-time novelty to purchase this stuff, go for it. But I don't understand why it's so exciting to legalize it and spend money on an addicting habit.
